G-Dragon aka Kwon Ji-Yong of South Korean boy band Bigbang attends the launch party for 'Acne Studio' flagship store on Sept. 18, 2015 in Seoul.
G-Dragon will be holding one of the largest-scale K-pop world tours ever this summer, announced the artist’s label on Tuesday.
The BIGBANG frontman and Korean music icon will head to 19 cities on his upcoming ACT III, M.O.T.T.E world tour. It kicks off in Seoul, South Korea on June 10, and includes eight stops in different cities throughout North America in July. The solo concert series, G-Dragon’s third, will take the artist to some of the most prominent music venues in North America, Australia, and Asia, including the Tokyo Dome and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
The tour’s title, officially G-Dragon 2017 Concert: Act III, M.O.T.T.E, features an acronym for “Moment of Truth The End.” It is the largest tour ever conducted by a Korean male solo artist. According to the concert's official page on YG Entertainment's website, Act III, M.O.T.T.E refers to the third act in G-Dragon's life and reflects "loneliness and anguish hidden behind the glamorous life from his massive success."
The tour will reportedly be preceded by the release of G-Dragon's third album, his first since 2013's Coup D'Etat.
The far-reaching concert series will reflect G-Dragon’s expansive career as an artist who has spent the majority of his life in the limelight, ever since being part of child band Little Roo’ra. Since BIGBANG’s start in 2006, the singer-songwriter has become one of K-pop’s most recognized stars, known both for his musical artistry and as an avant-garde leader of fashion.
Infusing his personality and life experiences into his music, performances, and music videos, G-Dragon’s songs are typically large-scale, dramatic productions that blend hip hop with a variety of genres, particularly EDM, R&B, and pop. Surpassing regional boundaries, he’s collaborated with the likes of Diplo, Skrillex, and Missy Elliott in the past while simultaneously acting as a member of Bigbang and pursuing a solo career.
Though he hasn't released any solo music in several years, G-Dragon's kept busy in 2017. Earlier this year, he collaborated with R&B singer Zion.T on “Complex” and, more recently, the BIGBANG member joined IU on her new single, “Palette.”
